Peter Njonjo is a Kenyan entrepreneur, business executive, and technology-driven supply-chain innovator best known for co-founding Twiga Foods, a B2B e-commerce company that uses technology to connect farmers, food manufacturers, and informal retailers. His work focuses on making Africa’s food distribution system more efficient, transparent, and affordable.
Before becoming an entrepreneur, Njonjo spent 21 years with The Coca-Cola Company, rising through several leadership positions. He served as General Manager of Coca-Cola’s East Africa business and later became President of the company’s West and Central Africa Business Unit, overseeing operations across 33 countries. He also played a role in major corporate transactions, including Coca-Cola’s acquisition of Chi Beverages Nigeria.
His experience at Coca-Cola gave him extensive knowledge of distribution, supply chains, route-to-market strategy, and consumer markets across Africa. This experience became particularly valuable when he turned his attention to entrepreneurship and the structural problems affecting food distribution on the continent.
In 2014, Njonjo co-founded Twiga Foods with Grant Brooke. The company emerged from an attempt to export Kenyan bananas, which exposed the founders to significant inefficiencies in the agricultural supply chain. They discovered that fragmented retail networks, limited traceability, and multiple layers of intermediaries were contributing to high food costs and losses.
Twiga Foods developed a technology-enabled B2B marketplace that allows small retailers to order food and household products digitally while connecting farmers and manufacturers to reliable markets. The model reduces unnecessary intermediaries and uses technology to improve ordering, distribution, payments, and supply-chain coordination.
Under Njonjo’s leadership, Twiga became an important player in Kenya’s technology and agritech ecosystem. The company has worked with thousands of farmers and retailers, while its digital distribution model has helped reduce post-harvest losses for produce moving through its network.
Njonjo has also been recognized for his broader contribution to African entrepreneurship and business leadership. He has served as President of the American Chamber of Commerce in Kenya and has been involved with organizations supporting entrepreneurship and youth development. His leadership has earned recognition including inclusion among influential young African leaders and Kenya’s Top 40 Under 40.
Academically, Njonjo holds a Bachelor of Science in International Business Administration and an MBA in Strategic Management from United States International University in Kenya. He also completed an executive leadership programme at Harvard Business School and is a Certified Public Accountant.
Through Twiga Foods, Peter Njonjo has demonstrated how technology can be applied to one of Africa’s most important economic challenges: creating a more efficient food supply chain. His journey from multinational corporate leadership to technology entrepreneurship has made him an influential figure in Africa’s agritech, e-commerce, and startup ecosystem.
