As digital commerce continues to evolve across Africa, founders building technology-enabled solutions are increasingly shaping how businesses connect with consumers. One such founder is Kafayat Olamide Olatoke, Founder of TasteBridge, an AI-enabled digital commerce platform focused on improving business visibility, vendor coordination and consumer engagement.

One year after launching TasteBridge in Lagos, Olatoke shares insights on technology leadership, artificial intelligence, and the realities of building sustainable digital systems within emerging markets.

Interviewer: One year after launching TasteBridge, what lessons have defined your journey as a technology founder?

Kafayat Olamide Olatoke:
One of the biggest lessons has been understanding the importance of adaptability within digital commerce. Consumer behaviour changes quickly, and digital platforms must evolve continuously to remain relevant and useful.

Since launching TasteBridge in Lagos, we have focused on improving operational efficiency, strengthening vendor onboarding processes and refining platform experiences for both businesses and consumers. One thing we have consistently observed is that businesses adopt technology more confidently when solutions are practical, accessible and directly connected to their everyday operational needs.

Building within technology has also reinforced the importance of patience and continuous improvement. Sustainable growth rarely happens overnight. It requires listening to users, understanding market behaviour, and refining systems based on real feedback.

Interviewer: TasteBridge is described as an AI-enabled platform. How is artificial intelligence being integrated into the business model?

Kafayat Olamide Olatoke:
Our approach to artificial intelligence is centred on improving efficiency and creating smarter user experiences. We use intelligent systems to support recommendation processes, improve digital interactions and better understand behavioural patterns that can help businesses engage more effectively with consumers.

For us, AI should simplify experiences rather than complicate them. Technology becomes valuable when it improves accessibility and enables businesses to make better decisions through informed insights.
As AI adoption grows across industries, there is also a responsibility to ensure technology remains practical and understandable, especially for businesses still transitioning into digital systems.

Interviewer: Your earlier career involved supporting enterprise software environments. How has that influenced the operational direction of TasteBridge?

Kafayat Olamide Olatoke:
My experience within enterprise technology environments significantly shaped how we think about platform reliability and operational structure at TasteBridge. Working with systems that businesses depend on daily taught me the importance of accountability, consistency and process management. Those lessons influenced how we approached vendor onboarding, platform coordination and long-term product thinking. I believe leadership in technology goes beyond launching products. Sustainable innovation requires building systems that can evolve responsibly over time while continuing to solve practical problems for users and businesses.
