Karl Olutokun Toriola is a distinguished Nigerian business executive and technology leader, best known as the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, the largest telecommunications company in Nigeria. Born and raised in Nigeria, Karl Toriola pursued higher education in engineering, earning a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University. He later expanded his business and leadership expertise by attending executive programs at globally recognized institutions such as Harvard Business School and INSEAD.

Toriola began his professional career in the engineering and telecommunications sector, working with global companies like Ericsson, where he gained extensive experience in network infrastructure and mobile communications. His career at Ericsson spanned multiple countries and leadership roles, helping him build a strong international reputation.

He later joined MTN Group, where he held several senior leadership positions across different markets, including roles in Nigeria and Iran. Before becoming CEO of MTN Nigeria, he served as Vice President for the West and Central Africa region, overseeing operations in multiple countries and driving growth strategies across the region.

In March 2021, Karl Toriola was appointed CEO of MTN Nigeria, succeeding Ferdi Moolman. Under his leadership, MTN Nigeria has continued to expand its network infrastructure, improve service delivery, and accelerate digital transformation initiatives. He has been instrumental in driving broadband penetration, fintech services, and 5G deployment in Nigeria, positioning MTN as a leader in the country’s digital economy.
